It hasn’t been a great week for the polyamorous relationship that is our coalition government.
National Party leader Christopher Luxon has spent most of his first six months as Prime Minister constantly batting away claims that he can’t control his coalition partners or that they are the ones really in control. As they hack and slash away at the public sector, frontline staff, environmental regulations, and benefits all in the name of tax relief for landlords, it seems the general public isn’t happy with the mess they are seeing.
Two separate polls have suggested that if the election were held today, National, and the two parties it’s in bed with, would not have enough seats to form a government - not a confident look six months in.
But that’s not at all surprising, Luxon doesn’t seem to possess the confidence to be able to take the lead in this threesome. He is constantly caught out by his partner’s insane statements and promises and can’t seem to be able to prove he’s in charge, or in control, continually jumping to their defense or making excuses for their behavior.
In light of this, and with the top film in the box office this week also being about a messy ménage à trois, I bring you this mash-up:
