Bilingual signs are a sign of the end of times, apparently.
Yeehawtheboys has an exclusive look at that dystopian future.
As a general rule, I don’t like to read comments on news articles, because y’know it’s a shit show with the worst people left on the barren landscape that is Facebook. But every now and then I dip my toes in especially, or maybe specifically, with news stories about our road signage going bilingual.
There was such an uproar when it was announced that ‘School’ signs would now feature the word ‘kura’, a rollout that was part of general replacement work (which shut down the general ‘taxpayer cost!!’ argument). It happened again in the last week when new signs for Heretaunga/Hastings use both Māori and English, and the next set of bilingual signs released for public consultation was released.
Because the comments are so so so so so funny, the racists come out saying people won’t understand the signs, it’ll confuse tourists, its dangerous for road safety, and something about Māori wanting to take over and erase whites.
So, I decided to make a comic depicting this bleak apocalyptic future…
