Look, there has been a lot of discourse around how our local media has been reporting on some topics and whether or not they have a bias towards trying to frame this government in a more positive light, during a time when things are feeling a little rough.

And I have my own gripes with local media, for one their absolute lack of front-page reporting on the horrific crimes being committed in Gaza. Or the fact that reporting on ram raids suddenly stopped once the new government came into power.

But just like the hilarious instant karma of supermarket reporting, sometimes timing is everything when it comes to shit takes. Take the title of this opinion piece published in the New Zealand Herald:

literally months later this headline was breaking news across our local media:

Yes, we are in a deep recession, but luckily for our Prime Minister, he will be fine, as he sold three houses last year, making a total of $695 in tax-free capital gains, in fact, he sold his third house just weeks before the above news broke.

So no, unfortunately, Luxon will have to leave his patent leather tap shoes in the closet for now, as the rockstar economy he hoped for is more of a white guy playing Three Doors Down on acoustic guitar at the beach recession.

If only there was a tax we could introduce to inject a bunch of money into the economy. hmmmm. But no, firing people, introducing sanctions, barely raising minimum wages, and giving tax cuts to landlords is a much smarter fiscal plan.
