A new comic book collection! Just in time for Christmas!
Last year, I released my first serious comic book collection, Slices of Heaven: Uniquely Kiwi Comics about Aotearoa, a collection of short, non-political comics celebrating the many things I love about this country. It was such a fun and creatively invigorating process, and the reception to the book was overwhelmingly positive, that I’ve spent the better part of this year working on a sequel, which I’m now excited to announce: A Few More Slices of Heaven.
Like the first book, A Few More Slices is packed with witty and warm comics that dive into the DNA of Aotearoa, celebrating our quirks, institutions, identity, and shared experiences.
Coming in at 40 Pages (slightly bigger than the first book), this volume dives deep into a variety of topics, including tales of school special guests, hyper-fictionalised dream hollywood adaptations of local heroes, local hold music, love letters to bogans, a primary school detective noir story that dives into the underbelly of banned items, and so, so, much more!
Just like the last book, I had a blast creating this one, from choosing the topics, researching through deep dives into archives and chats with friends and strangers, to just making myself giggle at things that are just uniquely us.
Especially in a year that has felt so divisive and where many may feel like they’ve forgotten what they love about this country, making this book has reminded me of what actually makes us great, and I hope that for those who grab a copy, it does the same for you.
