New Zealand invented the Lolly Scramble.

That’s right. Throwing lollies in the air and letting kids fight to claim handfuls is in the great halls of Kiwi ingenuity alongside the No. 8 Wire Fence and the Pavlova.

As I started to plan my second year of exploring uniquely Kiwi traditions, I put the call out on my Instagram to see what the country wanted covered. The simple act of scrounging the ground for treats while fighting off your peers was suggested more than once.

Finding an angle for a full comic was tricky, but then I remembered that a lolly scramble is a borderline small fist fight featuring children; adults should have bet on which kid would come out with the most candy. I soon realized this would need to be a horror story, Hunger Games mixed with Lord of the Flies, and thus I present to you: a unique look at the horror of the Lolly Scramble!
