State of the Substack 2025

A sneak peek at whats coming up this year on the Substack, to hopefully get you to become a paid subscriber!

State of the unions and budget announcements are big events followed by the press and day-to-day punters alike, but today, I’m taking the time to do my annual State of the Substack, where I preview what's coming up for the year on here and what content I have planned—all in the hopes you’ll consider becoming a paid subscriber!

Paid Subscribers get early, and in some cases exclusive, comics that may or may not make it onto social media, and may end up collected in a book at a later date, last year it was comics that ended up in my Slices of Heaven book, that were released monthly up to the release of the book.

This year, I will be continuing the Slices of Heaven series with some hot new comics covering new Aotearoa-centric stories. Last month saw the first of these, a deep-dive into the Lolly Scramble, and later this month I’ll be looking at the topic of ‘school special guests’, here’s a little preview:

Another Paid Subscriber exclusive month series I will be launching in June is an ongoing kiwi superhero series called She-La: Battle Bogan! This is a kind of reimagining of my Billy the Maverick character, but a bit more wholesome and family-friendly (ish). She-La: Battle Bogan will follow an Xena Warrior-esque hero who possesses the powers of a Ford Falcon, as she battles New Zealand-specific enemies and challenges.

This one has been a long time in the making, a dream project for me (as a long-time fan of superhero comics), and trying out something different with storytelling and art.

I will also still be pumping out the weekly political comics and keeping these mostly free for subscribers, as I think these topics should be accessible to everyone, no matter their budget.
